Most of these promises are given to ‘he who overcomes’. However, most of them are also promises contained in the salvation we have in Jesus Christ. Suggest the purpose of these promises: are they meant to encourage us or to threaten us? To strengthen our faith, or to destabilize our faith? Do they make you confident of your final salvation, or uncertain of your final salvation? Do they encourage you to hold on to Christ regardless of the difficulties or to give up because it’s just too hard?
