GOSPEL AND KINGDOM

This is a very brief study listing references to the Gospel as 'the good news of the Kingdom', and the 'kingdom' as the content of New Testament preaching:
Matthew 4:23: 'Jesus went throughout Galilee ... preaching the good news of the kingdom.'
Matthew 24:14: 'This gospel of the kingodm will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to the nations.'
Luke 9:2: 'He sent them to preach the kindgom of God.'
Luke 9:11: 'He spoke to them about the kingdom of God.'
Luke 9:60: '...you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.'
Luke 16:16: 'Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached...'
Acts 1:3 'He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.'
Acts 8:12: '...they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God ...'
Acts 20:25: '...none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom.'
Acts 28:23: 'From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God...'
Acts 28:31: 'Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God...'
Here are a few questions to think about or discuss:
1. What is the focus of gospel preaching today?
2. How often have you heard a gospel message that focussed on the kingdom of God?
3. Suggest how the concept of Gospel as 'kingdom' might be connected to Paul's statement about acknowledging Jesus Christ as 'Lord' in Romans 10:9.
4. What would be the more biblical 'altar call' - 'come to Jesus and you will be saved' or 'come to Jesus and acknowledge him as your King'?
Christ, the King, has come - the Messiah, the Anointed One, the Lion of Judah to whom the sceptre belongs, the long-awaited Son of David, the eternal King of the eternal Kingdom, the Lord of glory. He has overthrown the enemy. He has conquered. He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father with all things under his feet - 'far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come' - Ephesians 1:20, 21.
This is the Gospel, the good news of 'the Kingdom'.
