God's Word For You is a free Bible Study site committed to bringing you studies firmly grounded in the Bible – the Word of God. Holding a reformed, conservative, evangelical perspective this site affirms that God has provided in Jesus Christ his eternal Son, a way of salvation in which we can live in his presence guilt free, acquitted and at peace.

Lamb: Often a sacrificial animal. Jesus is called ‘the Lamb of God’ – the once for all final sacrifice which replaces, and fulfils the significance of, all other sacrifices.

Last days: Started with the first coming of Christ and continues until his return.

Law: Moral law – unchanging and absolute. Ritual or ceremonial law – prophetic shadows pointing forward to the greater reality of Christ and his salvation.

Law of Moses: The body of law given to Moses – most of the content of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy; summarized in the Ten Commandments. Includes ritual and ceremonial law.

Legalism [legalistic]: Belief that one has to gain or maintain salvation by one’s own efforts.

Liberation theology: teaching that sees ‘salvation’ as liberation from whatever held a person captive or inhibited, whether spiritual, national, racial, political or economic bondage. Sometimes used as a reason for involvement in anti-government movements. Not a biblical concept.

Life: Sometimes used to refer to the spiritual life and/or eternal life that those who are united with Christ possess.

Light: Used as a synonym for spiritual truth. God is seen as ‘light’. Jesus claims to be ‘the light’. Believers are called ‘the light’.

Lord: Translates Hebrew ‘Adonai’ [in Old Testament]. A common title of God [OT] and Christ [NT].

LORD: Translates the Hebrew ‘yhwh’ – Jehovah, Yahweh, I AM – God’s self-identifying personal name which God used in Exodus 3:14.

Lord’s Day: A reference to Sunday. In some Christian circles is treated like a Jewish Sabbath.

Love: Acting towards each other in the same way that God, in Christ, acts towards us.
