Mark began his gospel affirming that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Through the body of his gospel Mark has shown us the divine authority that Jesus Christ displayed during the three years of his ministry. Close to the end of his gospel, Mark again affirms the identity of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, by quoting the words of the Roman centurian who witnessed his death: 'Surely this man was the Son of God!'
