JESUS CHRIST - HIS INCREDIBLE CLAIMS
This message outline pulls together some of the claims that Jesus made about himself that are reported in John's gospel.
1. 'Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son' - 3:18.
2. 'Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst ... the water I give ... will become ... a spring of water welling up to eternal life' - 4:14.
3. 'He who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father, who sent him' - 5:23.
4. 'Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life' - 5:24.
5. 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty' - 6:35.
6. 'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life' - 8:12.
7. 'If you knew me, you would know my Father also' - 8:19.
8. 'If you do ot believe that i am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins' - 8:24.
9. '...before Abraham was born, I am' - 8:58.
10. 'I am the gate for the sheep; whoever enters through me will be saved' - 10:9.
11. 'I am the good shepherd' - 10:11, 14.
12. 'I and the Father are one' - 10:30.
13. 'I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die' - 11:25, 26.
14. 'When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness' - 12:44 - 46.
15. 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me you would know my Father as well' - 14:6, 7.
16. 'Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say "Show us the Father?"' - 14:9.
These claims of Jesus indicate that our response to him determines our eternal destiny. They are not claims that can be dismissed as unimportant. Indeed they were validated by his resurrection, which proved that he was exactly who he claimed to be. (Romans 1:4)
